Jelly Play Dough Recipe

Jelly Play dough recipe

Jelly Play Dough Recipe is an easy play dough to make and by adding some jelly crystals to a basic play dough recipe creates a smooth, soft and creamy textured play dough.

Depending on what flavour jelly you add to this recipe will depend on the colour and scent of the play dough.  For this recipe I added Passion fruit flavour which created a beautiful fruity tropical scented yellow play dough.

What you will need?

1 cup plain flour

1 tbsp oil

1 cup warm water

½ cup salt

2 tsp cream of tartar

1 85g Packet Jelly Crystals (Jello)

Method

  1. Pour all dry ingredients, flour, salt and cream of tartar together in a saucepan.
  2. Add 85g packet to warm water and stir until mostly dissolved.
  3. Add jelly water and oil to dry ingredients.
  4. I use a whisk before heating as I find this helps remove lumps and blends the ingredients well.
  5. Cook over medium heat constantly stirring until it becomes a thick blob.
  6. Then turn out onto a clean surface and knead into a smooth ball. Be careful the play dough will be very hot!  Use a little bit of flour if the play dough is sticky.
  7. Store in a plastic zip lock bag or air tight container.

  1. I love the idea of the colours you could easily achieve with jelly play dough… but is it sticky? I keep thinking with all that sugar in it, it must be sticky??? LOL I guess I should try it for myself and find out!

    1. We use this dough, but with the sugarfree jelly instead…..great smell without the stickiness. We have always called it fruit putty!

      1. Love the name fruit putty and jelly play dough definitely smells so good. So many possiblities. It is funny you mention the stickiness. I found ours to be really soft and smooth, not sticky at all. Good tip for others about the sugarfree jelly though. Thanks! 🙂

  2. Love, love , love it…… I love making play- dough but the jelly play dough it’s really great and it smells good as the kids loves to smell it and it Really helps the kids with sensory motor skills . Brilliant!! 🥰
